Discover Isla de Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria, one of the main islands of Spain’s Canary Islands alongside Tenerife, is renowned for its diverse landscapes and vibrant culture. Located in the Atlantic Ocean, off the northwestern coast of Africa, this island features a unique mix of natural landscapes, including beaches, dunes, lush forests, and mountainous regions. Its capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, offers a blend of historic architecture and heritage sites, modern amenities, vibrant sports opportunities, and lively festivals and public engagement events. The Canary Islands are at the crossroads of three continents, offering a microcosmos of cultures and stunning natural beauty, the distinctive identities of each island, with their own traditions, cultural heritage, and international influences, make eight very different territories within the same archipelago.

A Dynamic Scientific Hub: La Palma Research Centre (LPRC)

La Palma Research Centre (LPRC) is an independent, internationally active think-tank headquartered in the island of La Palma (in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, different from the island of Gran Canaria), Canary Islands, Spain.  We are an international & transdisciplinary team working across various topics, including environmental sciences, ocean literacy and blue economy, social sciences and humanities, public policy, stakeholder engagement and communication. During our work, we use foresight methodologies and community engagement to create participatory spaces for decision-making, solution-finding, and knowledge co-creation for future pathways.

As such, LPRC’s strength is delivering out-of-the-box solutions for technology and knowledge transfer, business development (bringing technology close to the market), public engagement, citizens’ science, and science communication (bringing research and scientific knowledge closer to society and vice-versa).
