Parallels Sessions II – 2.3 Navigating complexities together – A workshop on creating fruitful research-practice collaborations in science communication

May 3, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm

Philipp Burkard, Science et Cité, Switzerland,
Liliann Fischer and Lisa Mertin, Wissenschaft im Dialog, Germany

In the past years, science communication research and practice have both become established as communities. To learn more about good and effective science communication and reflect on its development, joint projects by researchers and practitioners are an important means. However, for such endeavors to be successful, it is essential that both parties are clear about their needs and expectations.

In this session we will shed light on challenges for joint projects, invite participants to share their previous experiences and explore possibilities for future collaborations. To encourage reflection about prospective projects, participants will get to use a newly developed tool that provides orientation among the many possibilities of collaboration and exchange. A complementary worksheet will allow participants to consider a future project in detail and formulate their expectations toward it.

The tool and worksheet were developed by the German project Transfer Unit Science Communication.
