Why not extend your stay in Luxembourg? Join us for a series of cultural and educational activities designed to highlight the research, history and natural riches of the city and country of Luxembourg.

The activities will take place on the 19th of May; we ask participants to choose their preferred activity when registering for the conference.

Pre-Conference Opportunities (19.05.2026)

Reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure to reserve your seat as soon as possible!

Visit to the Luxembourg Science Centre

  • Schedule of the official visit: 10:00 – 12:00
  • Departure: You can either go there on your own, or join us with a free train ride to the Science Center (we will leave with the train at around 9h30 at Esch-sur-Alzette train station or around 9h35 at Belval train station; official schedules need to be checked on the day)
  • Description of the visit: Discover the Luxembourg Science Center’s showrooms and do some hands-on experiments. After this explore some Pop Up Science Intros and over 100 experimental stations covering physics, biology, chemistry, and engineering, all presented in multiple languages (LU, FR, DE, EN, PT). It’s an ideal destination for curious minds of all ages, combining education with entertainment in a dynamic setting.

The Luxembourg Science Center is a dynamic and entertaining discovery hub dedicated to science and new technologies, designed to captivate audiences of all ages. In its exploration hall, visitors can engage with over 100 interactive stations, enjoy “science shows”, and participate in daily hands-on workshops.

Experience science and technology in a playful and inspiring way: whether you’re exploring the universe in the planetarium, joining the kitchen lab workshop, playing table football against a robot or simulating an earthquake… amazement and enthusiasm are guaranteed!

After the visit of the Science Center you can either stay there a bit longer, or go back by train to Belval or Esch-sur-Alzette, to have lunch there. Lunch is on your own responisbility. Belval and Esch-sur-Alzette have a great selection of restaurants.

Guided Tour of the Belval Campus

  • Length of the visit: 2 hours
  • Suggested schedule: 10:00 – 12:00
  • Description: This guided tour offers a unique look into Luxembourg’s industrial past and its transformation into a modern hub of science and education. Visitors explore the Blast Furnace, the last of its kind in Luxembourg, learning about steelmaking and climbing to a panoramic viewpoint. The tour continues through Campus Belval, showcasing cutting-edge architecture and the development of the City of Science, home to the University of Luxembourg. The experience blends heritage, innovation, and urban renewal, making it ideal for educational groups, professionals, and curious visitors alike.

We warmly invite the delegates of the EUSEA Annual Conference to explore the Belval campus —once the heart of Luxembourg’s steel industry and now a leading centre for innovation and science.

During the visit, delegates will discover the historical significance and inner workings of the blast furnaces and steel production processes. A climb to the 40-meter-high viewing platform, via 180 steps, offers a rewarding panoramic view of the surrounding area.

Participants will also learn about the conservation and integration of the blast furnaces within the City of Sciences, Research and Innovation, as well as the development of the new urban quarter and its forward-looking architectural and planning projects.

Visit the Luxembourg Natural Museum of History 

  • Length of the visit: 2 hours
  • Suggested schedule: 15:00 – 17:00
  • Departure to Luxembourg city: a bus, included in the package, will leave at 14h00 at Belval and 14h15 at Esch-sur-Alzette to head towards Luxembourg city. Otherwise you may also use the train (for free)
  • Description: The visit offers an engaging journey through Luxembourg’s natural heritage, showcasing biodiversity, geology, and paleontology. Visitors explore interactive displays, fossils, minerals, and live terrarium exhibits. Temporary exhibitions often highlight global environmental themes or scientific discoveries. The museum is located in the picturesque Grund district, adding cultural charm to the experience.

The National Museum of Natural History is not only a public exhibition space but also a leading research institute. Behind its displays lies a vibrant scientific community dedicated to studying a vast collection of millions of specimens and exploring Luxembourg’s natural heritage.

The museum houses the largest natural history collection in the country. Each specimen showcased has undergone extensive fieldwork, meticulous laboratory analysis, and precise identification. Only the most remarkable examples are selected for exhibition, reflecting the depth and rigour of the museum’s scientific work.

Visit the historic heart of Luxembourg City

  • Length of the visit: 2 hours
  • Suggested schedule: 15:00 – 17:00
  • Description: This guided walking tour offers a rich introduction to Luxembourg City’s history, architecture, and culture. Accompanied by an official guide, visitors explore the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Grand Ducal Palace, Notre-Dame Cathedral, and the Bock promontory. The tour also includes panoramic views from the Corniche and a stroll through the historic Grund district. It’s an ideal way to discover the charm and heritage of the capital in just two hours.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

After you visit Luxembourg city or the Luxembourg National History Museum, you may participate in the EUSEA pre-conference apéro, stay a bit on your own in Luxembourg city or come back to Belval or Esch-sur-Alzette with the train (for free) or with the bus (included in the package; departure at 19h30 or 22h30).

Please note that due to limited space, only registered attendees for the pre-conference drinks will be able to attend.
This venue is located in the Luxembourg city centre. A shuttle back to Luxembourg University will be available at 19:30 and 22:30. Otherwise, attendees will have to arrange alternative travel arrangements.

Conference Dinner (20.05.2026)

Conference dinner is included in the price of registration. Diner for accompanying persons is subject to availability, organizers will share more information about availability and options once the conference registration is completed and closed.

If you are ready to socialise a little earlier, why not join us at Cafe Saga, a short walk from the conference venue and the restaurant, for an early drink and a deep discussions before the fun at the conference dinner.
